Chocolate Fudge Brownies (Best Brownie Recipe!)

1 2/3 C. sugar
1/2 cup (1stick) butter
2 Tbs water
2 bars (4 oz unsweeted chocolate baking bars, broken into pieces (can substitute cocoa if you must)
2 large eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/3 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°, grease 13x9" pan.

Microwave sugar, butter and water in a large microwave-safe bowl on high for 4-5 minutes or until mixture bubbles, stirring once*. Add baking bars; stir until melted. Stir in eggs one at a time until incorporated. Stir in vanilla. Add flour, baking soda and salt, stir well, stir in nuts/chips, if desired. Pour into pan and backe 15-20 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out very slightly sticky. Cool in pan on wire rake and cut into bars
Makes 2 dozen.

*can heat with saucepan over medium heat just to boiling, stirring constantly.
